Most fantasy golf cheat sheets are the world ranking with some vibes on top. That's fine for picking one player a week in DFS. In a snake draft it falls apart by Round 3, when the chalk is gone and you need value at pick 28.

This guide shows how to build your own U.S. Open cheat sheet for Pebble Beach (June 17-20, 2027). It's a method, not a list of picks. Player rankings go stale in a week; the method works every June.

What Pebble Beach rewards

Start with the course, because it sets your weights. Four verified facts drive everything below:

  • Tiny greens. Pebble's poa annua greens average about 3,500 square feet, the smallest on the PGA Tour.
  • Short for a major. The 2019 U.S. Open played 7,075 yards at par 71.
  • Wide scoring range. Winning scores at Pebble U.S. Opens run from +2 (Nicklaus, 1972) to -13 (Woodland, 2019). Weather decides which version you get.
  • Lots of data. The Tour visits every February for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, so most of the field has played it.

The five inputs that matter

1. Official World Golf Ranking

The baseline. OWGR averages two years of results, so it captures sustained quality better than a hot month. It's free at owgr.com. Suggested weight: 30%.

2. Strokes Gained: Approach and Around the Green

At Pebble, this is the input we'd push hardest. Small greens punish loose irons, and the misses leave tricky chips. Free stats live at pgatour.com/stats; DataGolf has deeper splits if you subscribe. Suggested weight: 30% (up from 25% at a longer course).

3. Recent form (last 4-8 weeks)

Look for top-10s at events with strong fields and real pressure: the PGA Championship in May, the Memorial, signature events. Don't overreact to one missed cut. Suggested weight: 20%.

4. Course history

Pull results from the 2010 and 2019 U.S. Opens at Pebble and from recent AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Ams. Weight the U.S. Open finishes more. February at Pebble is softer, and the pro-am setup isn't a USGA setup. Suggested weight: 10%.

5. Conditions fit

Check the forecast Wednesday. If wind is coming off the Pacific, move up low-ball hitters and grinders who've played well in wind. If it's calm, scoring opens up and the best iron players get even more valuable. Suggested weight: 10%.

Turning the inputs into one ranking

Score each player 0-100 on each input, multiply by the weight, and add it up:

  • OWGR x 0.30
  • SG: Approach + Around the Green x 0.30
  • Recent form x 0.20
  • Course history x 0.10
  • Conditions fit x 0.10

A Google Sheet with the field as rows, the five inputs as columns, and a SUMPRODUCT formula takes about 30 minutes. Don't agonize over the weights. Most of the edge comes from having one list you trust instead of five you flip between.

Using the cheat sheet in a snake draft

A 10-person Foursome league drafts 30 golfers across 3 rounds (forward, reverse, forward). Your sheet does a different job each round.

  • Round 1. Take the best player left on your sheet. Don't reach for a specialist this early.
  • Round 2. Your sheet starts paying off. A player you rank 12th might be 20th on the public list.
  • Round 3. Pools are won here. Find the accurate iron player with good Pebble results that everyone else skipped.

Using the cheat sheet in the Friday auction

After the cut, maybe 25 undrafted players become biddable. Now you have two rounds of real Pebble data on every one of them, so weight this week's play heavily. A player who's 4 under through 36 holes on tiny greens is doing exactly what the course asks.

Set your max bid before bidding opens. The usual way people blow a pool is spending most of their auction money on the Friday leader.

FAQ

What stats matter most for the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach?

We'd lead with Strokes Gained: Approach and Around the Green. Pebble's greens average about 3,500 square feet, and the course is short enough that distance matters less than at most majors.

Should I use AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am results?

Yes, at a discount. It's the same course, but February conditions and the pro-am setup play easier than a U.S. Open.

When should I finalize my rankings?

Wednesday, June 16, after the forecast is out and before your draft.
