The 2027 Masters runs April 8-11 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. It's the first major of the year and the one pool your whole group chat will say yes to, including the friends who couldn't name a single PGA Tour event in October.

This guide covers what a Masters fantasy pool looks like on Foursome during Masters week: when to draft, how the Friday auction works after the cut, how to split the money for 6-10 friends, and how to get the whole thing set up in about five minutes.

Quick definition. A fantasy pool is a private contest: your friends, your buy-in, your payouts. If you want salary-cap DFS against thousands of strangers, that's DraftKings. If you want a season-long public game, ESPN and PGA Tour Fantasy cover that. Our 2027 fantasy golf platform comparison lays out the differences.

The 2027 Masters at a glance

  • Dates: Thursday, April 8 through Sunday, April 11, 2027.
  • Course: Augusta National, par 72. It played 7,565 yards in 2026 after the 17th was stretched 10 yards to 450.
  • Defending champion: Rory McIlroy, who won in 2025 and again in 2026 (12-under 276, one shot clear of Scottie Scheffler). He goes for three straight in 2027. Nobody has ever done it.
  • Field: roughly 90 players, the smallest of the four majors, packed with past champions who are invited for life.
  • Cut: top 50 and ties after 36 holes. The old "within 10 shots of the lead" rule was dropped in 2020. In 2026 the cut fell at 4-over 148.

That small field matters for a pool. With about 90 names and ten friends drafting three each, 30 golfers go off the board. That's a third of the field, so Round 3 still has real players in it. Then roughly 50-plus make the weekend, and the ones nobody drafted become your Friday auction board.

What a Foursome Masters pool looks like

  • 3-round snake draft. Three golfers per team, and every golfer can only be on one roster. No two friends end up with the same team.
  • Friday night cash auction. After the cut, every undrafted golfer who made the weekend goes up for live bidding. The money goes into the pot.
  • Daily prizes for Thursday through Sunday, plus overall payouts. You pick which days pay and how much.
  • Live ESPN scoring. Scores update every few minutes during rounds. Nobody does math off the broadcast.
  • Cascading tiebreakers. Ties break on your best golfer, then your second best, then your third. No "let's just split it" debates.
  • Push notifications when it's your pick, when you're outbid, and as the auction closes.
  • Season standings across all four majors if your group keeps going after Augusta.

Masters week, day by day

Two to three weeks out: send the invite

Create the league, drop one invite link in the group chat, and let people register. Collect buy-ins while the excitement is high. The Masters field comes in from ESPN ahead of the tournament, so the draft board is ready without you typing a single name.

Tuesday or Wednesday night: draft

Wednesday of Masters week (April 7, 2027) is the Par 3 Contest, and it's a good warm-up for your draft. Watch the kids in caddie bibs, then draft that night. Late enough that you'll hear about any withdrawals, early enough that nobody is picking at midnight. If your group can't do Wednesday, Tuesday night works just as well. A ten-person draft on FaceTime with a 90-second clock takes about half an hour.

Thursday and Friday: daily prizes and the cut

Each day, the team with the best combined score from its golfers takes that day's prize. By default it counts all three, and you can switch to best two. Friday afternoon is cut drama. At Augusta it's often a past champion hanging on at the number or a top-10 player in the world packing his bags.

Friday night: the auction

The Friday night auction. Every undrafted golfer who made the cut is biddable.

By default the auction opens Friday at 7pm Eastern once the cut is applied. Every undrafted golfer still playing goes up for cash bids above your league minimum (default $10). Each bid commits a drop player from your roster, so there's never a question of who got swapped out. The hard cutoff defaults to Saturday midnight Eastern, and if the auction is still open when Saturday's round starts, Foursome closes it automatically. Anyone short a weekend golfer gets the next-best available player at the minimum bid. Best practice: wrap it up Friday night.

Saturday and Sunday: the back nine

Weekend scoring runs off your post-auction roster. The overall winner is the team whose best golfer finishes highest, with ties broken by your second and third golfers. In 2026, three different players held a two-shot lead at some point on Sunday before McIlroy birdied 12 and 13 and held on by one. That's the kind of swing that decides a pool, so keep the group chat open through 18.

Example payouts for 6-10 friends

Here's a $50 buy-in. Pay something every day so the friend whose team is cooked by Friday still has Sunday's daily to play for. First place takes the remainder, which grows with every auction dollar.

Prize6 friends ($300)8 friends ($400)10 friends ($500)
Thursday daily$25$30$40
Friday daily$25$30$40
Saturday daily$25$30$40
Sunday daily$25$30$40
Overall 3rdnone$40$50
Overall 2nd$50$80$100
Overall 1st$150 + auction$160 + auction$190 + auction

Auction money adds up fast. If four of ten teams lose a golfer at the cut and each spends $25-50 replacing him, first place picks up another $100-200. Set the minimum bid at $5-10 so even auto-fills put real money in the pot.

How to set up your 2027 Masters pool

  1. Register at foursomegolf.golf. Email and password, about 30 seconds.
  2. Create a league and name it after your group chat.
  3. Send the invite link. Friends click it, register, and land in the Masters pool automatically.
  4. Configure the Masters in the admin panel: entry fee, which daily rounds pay, dollar amounts per place, minimum bid, and draft format (standard snake, or a re-randomized Round 3 that stays hidden until it starts).
  5. Set the draft time for Tuesday or Wednesday night of Masters week. Push notifications handle the rest.
  6. Mark people paid as their Venmo clears. Foursome tracks who owes; the money itself moves between friends.

FAQ

When is the 2027 Masters?

April 8-11, 2027, at Augusta National. The Par 3 Contest is Wednesday, April 7.

How many people can join a Masters pool?

Foursome works for groups of 4 to 20-plus. Most friend pools land between 8 and 12. With about 90 golfers in the field, even a 20-person draft (60 picks) leaves undrafted players for the auction.

What happens if my golfer misses the cut or withdraws?

A withdrawal before the cut counts as a missed cut. Either way, you replace him in the Friday auction. If you don't bid, the auto-fill gives you the next-best available golfer at the minimum bid, so you always have a full weekend roster.

How does the Masters cut work now?

Top 50 and ties after Friday's round. The 10-shot rule is gone (Augusta dropped it starting in 2020), so being close to the leader no longer saves you.

Does Foursome cost anything?

No. Foursome is free, with no platform fee and no cut of the pot. Your group settles buy-ins through Venmo, cash, or however you already pay each other.

Can we keep the same league for the other 2027 majors?

Yes. The same league runs the 2027 PGA Championship at Fields Ranch East in May, the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach in June, and the Open at St Andrews in July, with season standings tracking who's best across all four.
